Description
Soft pastels have a fascinating history that dates back thousands of years to prehistoric cave paintings, where artists used natural earth pigments such as red and yellow ochre to create their artwork. Centuries later, artists including Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael incorporated colored chalks into their drawings and preparatory studies. By the 19th century, artists such as Edgar Degas were using pastels to create vibrant, expressive works of art.
Today’s soft pastels offer incredibly rich, pure colors that blend beautifully, making them a wonderful medium for both beginners and experienced artists.
